Pick Your Poison

Lets get on the topic of the Cowboys offense. Much like the Patriots offense, the problem with trying to scheme against them is so difficult because there are just SO MANY weapons at their disposal. Lets list the playmakers, keep in mind, some are greater  than others but nonetheless need to be accounted for. Remember, in man coverage with no legit focused help, an average player becomes exceptional. So, the playmakers; Tony Romo, TO, Patrick Crayton, Jason Witten, Marion Barber, Julius Jones, Sam Hurd, Anthony Fasano, Tony Curtis and now you throw in Miles Austin into the mix; by the way, did I mention that Terry Glenn hasn’t played a snap this year and he was supposed to be the 2nd option on this team. Wow. Only the astute fan would know each of these names and realize that every single one of them have made big plays for the Cowboys at one point or another this year. Obviously, the players are important but a coach who needs a tremendous amount of credit is Jason Garrett (offensive coordinator), the first year OC is doing a brilliant job at running this machine we call the Cowboys offense. A perfect example of picking your poison is this past weekend in Detroit; the Lions decided to double and triple TO and Jason Witten goes off for 15 catches, 138 yards and the game winning TD grab with 18 seconds to go in the game. Several weeks back it was the Giants deciding to take Witten out of the game, the result was TO catching 2 TD’s and lighting the Giants secondary up. Another example from early on in the season was the Rams taking TO out of the game again and Patrick Crayton catching 7 balls, 184 yards and 2 TD’s. There are many many examples of teams deciding to eliminate 1 guy but there is always another guy there ready to take advantage. The biggest advantage the Cowboys have is Tony Romo and the offensive line giving him time to deliver the ball to the open man. That is why teams that play the Cowboys are forced to simply pick their poison and hope that Tony Romo has an off day.
